Our Assisted Web Development (AWD) project helps islanders build an online presence without the cost and complication of going it alone.
An online presence is essential for our small community. Much of our economy is tourism based and visitors turn to the internet and their devices to do their research.

As residents of a small and remote island community, we’re no strangers to sharing our gear, skills and knowledge to help each other out and get the job done.
Future Rakiura is sharing our hosting space, domain name and initial design, site set up to help locals out.

Getting online with a web presence is often complicated and expensive but it doesn’t have to be that way. We’re here to help you get the basics done without paying for bells and whistles you might not need.
Free set up and basic design
We’ll get your website set up for you at no cost.
We can also help with basic design or let you loose with your own creativity.
Web address (domain)
You’ll get a free sub-domain from us. www.youraddress.rakiuranz.com
Or use your own web address if you have one. If not, we can help you purchase the one you want.
If you have your own domain name, you can set up a custom email address that uses it.

Content management
Our hosting package offers many options for managing your website. Use the user-friendly AI web builder or get more flexibility and functionality with systems like WordPress, Woo Commerce, SquareSpace and many more.
Local support
Nothing beats local, responsive support. While we may be time-strapped volunteers, we’re motivated to help our friends here on the island. Just flick us a message and we’ll see what we can do. No chat bots, no call waiting music.

FAQs
Which hosting company do you use?
We use Hostinger based in the United States.
What if I don’t want my website address to be www.mysite.rakiuranz.com?
No problem, you don’t have to use the free rakiuranz.com sub-domain if you don’t want to. We can help you get set up with your own domain name but it will come at an annual cost.
Are there any rules or restrictions on what I can publish?
To keep ourselves, you and other users safe we are not able to support all kinds of websites, content and information. We retain the right to refuse support and service depending on what you want to publish. More information is available in our Assisted Web Development sub-lease agreement – terms and conditions which we’ll use when you sign up with us. Click here to see the agreement.
Will it be 100% free?
It’ll depend on what kind of website you want and which options you choose. There are premium subscriptions for website extras that may incur a cost to you. We’ll do our best to keep it free but we may not always be able to. We can offer you free hosting space, a free sub-domain and free set up. Extra expenses will be discussed and agreed before you’re committed to any costs.
Will it always be free and available?
That’s our plan but we are volunteers reliant on funding grants to support and complete our projects and so we can’t guarantee it. We retain the right to stop providing the service if we can no longer afford or resource it. In that unlikely scenario, we’ll do our best to help migrate your website to a new hosting package before we shut down.
